A REAL answer to you initial question would be: the key element of the ashen quadrant is mediation.

TRADITIONALLY, a club is made up of three trolls, one of which mediates between the other two. BUT we live in a wondrous and modern society! THERE are no true regulatory limits on the ashen quadrant anymore, and it is likely the most flexible of the four romances.

A TROLL may wish, for example to mediate another troll's internal interactions with themselves, forming a two-leafed club. OR they may wish to mediate between that troll and the world at large, forming the same.

CLUBS with four or five leaves are rarer and generally less stable, but they are not entirely unheard of. IF there is one or more trolls consistently mediating and one or more trolls being consistently mediated, the relationship may be considered ashen.

AS with any quadrant, however, all those involved must agree that the relationship is a quadranted one for it for it to be so.
